The VA administration gives guidance for loan requirements for water and specifically for wells (individual water supplies). Per VA Pamphlet 26-7, Chap 12, Pg. 12-7
" Each unit must have the following:
- domestic hot water
- a continuing supply of safe and potable water for drinking and other household uses, and
- sanitary facilities and a safe method of sewage disposal.
Reference: For requirements regarding individual water supplies and individual sewage disposal systems, see Section 12.08."
Section 12.08 states, with regards to water quality:
"Water quality for an individual water supply must meet the requirements of the health authority having jurisdiction. If the local authority does not have specific requirements, the maximum contaminant levels established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will apply."

Well Test Package:
A representative from Cameron Testing will come out to a house for sale. Water samples will be pulled from the kitchen sink in accordance with NC DHHS/PWS sampling requirements and will be tested for the following:
- Lead, Pb (must be "first draw")
- Nitrate/Nitrite
- Total coliform/E. coli (bacteria, P/A)
- pH
Clients and authorized representatives will receive a report on the results of the tests. Tests are graded as Pass/Fail for a water sample according to the US EPA drinking water limits for those four (4) analytes.

| Suggested Solutions For Failed Tests
- Failed Lead (Pb) - Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter system next to the kitchen sink. RO systems remove everything from the water.
- Failed Nitrate/Nitrite - RO system
- Failed Bacteria - Chlorinate the well and the entire plumbing system of the house. Either hire a well driller/inspector/certified ORC or do it yourself. The NC Department of Environmental Quality (formerly NC DENR) has a publication explaining the procedure. See the link below
- Failed pH - Don't know how to fix that one
